Confidence Coaching

In my individual confidence coaching sessions with children and teens, I create an emotionally-safe environment that utilizes art, play, and movement to encourage communication, relationship-building, expression, problem resolution, and mastery.

Art

Art acts as a mirror of what is happening internally and become a reflection of thoughts and feelings. Art can speak in colors, shapes, and images beyond the limitations of our spoken language. Art provides a creative outlet that encourages the risk of being seen, known, and accepted in an alternative way.

Play

Children use play and imagination to explore the world and to make sense of what they see, hear, and experience. Play strengthens the connections in the brain and supports intellectual, physical, emotional, social, and creative processes. When emotional events occur in children's lives, their primary method for understanding them is to play about them.

I strategically utilize play therapy techniques to help kids express themselves when they may not have the verbal language to do so. In play therapy, toys are a child’s words and play is a child’s language. Through play, I gain insight into a child’s thoughts, feelings, experiences, and interpretations of their own world.

Movement

For many children, movement can play a powerful role in emotional expression and self regulation. Walk and talk sessions integrate counseling interventions with movement in natural environments. These sessions typically take place in parks or on local walking trails, offering children the opportunity to engage in physical activity and experience the calming effects of spending time outdoors while participating in counseling. Walking can support sensory regulation, improve focus, and reduce anxiety, making it easier for children to engage meaningfully in the therapeutic process. Exposure to nature has also been linked to improved mood, increased attention, and reduced stress—factors that significantly enhance therapeutic outcomes for young clients.
